About This Quote
The quote, “It should not be possible for Christians to be disillusioned. We should have no illusions in the first place. Our faith is in Jesus Christ alone,” was said by Martin Luther, a leader of the protestant reformation. Luther was a harsh critic of the Roman Catholic Church and called for reform.
He believed that the church had been corrupted by worldly power and that only Christ could set it straight again. However, he strongly believed that it was impossible to reform the church from within. In other words, he agreed with Augustine that the Roman church was too corrupt to be reformed from within.
In this way, Luther is seen as one of the fathers of modern protestantism.
